Welcome

St Marychurch C of E Primary School and Nursery is a Church of England school, and our Christian foundation shapes the ethos and daily life of our community.

Welcome

We are very proud of our St Marychurch family and hope that this website offers you a glimpse into our school life, as well as the key information you may need.

At St Marychurch, we want everyone to feel part of our community and for every child to feel safe, valued, and supported, whatever challenges they may face. We create an environment where children can be curious, confident, and enthusiastic about learning. Our commitment is to provide high-quality opportunities across the curriculum so that every child can thrive.

Our vision, “Nurturing minds; fulfilling lives”, lies at the heart of all that we do. It is rooted in our values of love, joy, peace, and kindness, which are lived out each day by both children and adults.

As a church school, we treasure our close links with St Marychurch parish and with Father Nick. Pupils regularly visit the church, and Father Nick leads worship in school, helping us to explore and celebrate the vision, values, and scripture that shape our lives together.

Our school family is dedicated to the flourishing of every child, ensuring that each individual feels heard, included, and celebrated. We also place great importance on working in partnership with families so that children experience a strong sense of belonging both at home and at school.

As proud members of the St Christopher’s Primary Multi-Academy Trust, we work closely with the Trust and our partner schools, drawing strength and inspiration from our wider family. Together, we are committed to continuous growth, improvement, and service to the community. We welcome ideas and feedback from children, parents, staff, governors, and the Trust as part of this shared journey.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in 2024 judged us to be a GOOD school. The report celebrated many of our strengths, including the children’s vibrancy, good relationships with adults and being respectful.

Please do get in touch if you would like further information or to arrange a visit—we would be delighted to welcome you!

Flourishing Together

What does flourishing look like?

Our rich, broad and inclusive curriculum which nurtures academic success alongside character development and spiritual growth, and our team-led support for those with the greatest need, are at the heart of our vision for flourishing pupils.

Our relationships with pupils and their families/carers, including our open-door policy, our willingness to respectfully listen and our "outstanding, care, guidance and support", are at the heart of our vision for a flourishing school.

Our Christian values of Love, Peace, Joy and Kindness and our relationship with the community of St Marychurch and the church - St Mary the Virgin - are at the heart of our vision for a flourishing community.

Reading for Pleasure

I am passionate about reading and reading for pleasure.  I am passionate about celebrating all forms of reading.  I am passionate about pupils reading books which broaden their horizons and help them better understand and respect the diversity which exists within our world.  Finally, I am passionate about every child discovering their special book - a book that they read when they are feeling happy and also read when they are feeling sad - a book that they treasure forever!  I am very pleased that the staff at St Marychurch CoE Primary School and Nursery share this passion too.

Our Curriculum

We want our children to be inspired by our curriculum; keen to challenge themselves and develop a real thirst for knowledge. We want them to build their substantive knowledge (the facts) alongside the growth of their disciplinary knowledge in each subject (e.g. understanding how a historian learns about the past and constructs their understanding). Details of our curriculum and our Curriculum Policy can be found here:
